Artificial grass needs a suitable base beneath the finished surface. Before quoting, Evergreen checks the existing ground, access, levels and the way water leaves the area. A neat-looking roll of grass cannot resolve poor drainage by itself.
What preparation is normally needed?
- Clear and assess: identify existing lawn, roots, loose material and any services that could affect the work.
- Set the levels: allow space for the selected base and turf while planning joins to paths, garden edges and gates.
- Prepare the base: excavate as required and install a suitable compacted base. Materials and depth depend on the soil, use and chosen turf system.
- Plan drainage: establish where water will go, particularly where the ground already holds water.
- Finish the turf: plan cuts, joins, secure edges and any infill to the product’s installation requirements.
There is no single base specification for every Melbourne yard. Tell us about soft ground, pooling water or recent filling so these can be assessed before installation.
Is ground preparation included in the grass price?
Ask for the complete scope in writing. Our website lists artificial grass supply and installation separately from land preparation. Existing lawn removal, excavation, disposal, filling, edging and drainage may affect the final quotation. Comparing only a price per square metre can miss these items.
What can I send for a quote?
- Your suburb and approximate length and width of each area.
- Wide photos of the whole yard, plus close-ups of edges and any uneven areas.
- The narrowest access width and whether materials must pass through the house or a side gate.
- Details of what will stay, what needs removal and any known drainage problems.
- How the area will be used, including pets or frequent foot traffic.
