Small-tree cutting, pruning, mulching and clean-up.

Assessment and practical site planning for suitable residential trees up to 7 metres.

Updated 24 October 2026

Small-tree work matched to the property.

The appropriate scope may be selected pruning, cutting back or complete removal. Evergreen assesses suitable small residential trees up to 7 metres after checking photos, condition, access and surrounding hazards.

Pruning and branch cutting

Selected branches and overgrowth can be cut back where the work and surrounding area are suitable.

Small-tree removal

Complete removal can be assessed for suitable trees up to 7 metres, subject to access, condition and nearby structures.

Mulching and clean-up

Suitable branches can be processed with a compact mulcher, with agreed green waste removed as part of the quoted scope.

Before requesting a quote

Show the full tree, access and nearby hazards.

Send one wide photo showing the tree from ground to top, a clear photo of the trunk base and photos of the access route. Include nearby roofs, sheds, fences and any visible overhead lines.

Add the suburb, approximate height and whether you want pruning, cutting back or complete removal. Say whether mulch should remain on site or green waste should be taken away.

Request an assessment

Clear quotation scope

Confirm what happens to the stump, logs, branches and mulch.

Tree cutting and site clean-up are not one standard package for every property. The written quotation should identify each agreed item.

Cutting or pruning

Confirm which branches or trees are included and whether the requested result is selected pruning, cutting back or complete above-ground removal.

Stump and root scope

Stump or root work is not automatically included with above-ground cutting. Any agreed treatment must be stated separately in the quotation; do not assume the ground will be ready for a new fence, lawn or concrete.

Material and clean-up

Confirm whether suitable branches will be mulched, whether mulch or cut logs will remain on site, and which agreed green waste will be removed.

Planning tree work before fencing or landscaping

If a suitable small tree conflicts with a proposed fence, gate, concrete area, deck or landscaping project, send photos of the complete outdoor area. Approved tree work is often easier to assess while access remains open and before new finishes are installed. Evergreen can quote its verified outdoor services together, but only the items written into the agreed scope are included.

For a useful first assessment, send the suburb, approximate height, photos of the whole tree and trunk base, the narrowest access width, nearby buildings and fences, visible overhead lines, the requested result, and details of the planned fencing or landscaping.

When a different specialist may be required

Large, unstable or hazardous trees, work near electrical assets, protected vegetation and jobs requiring specialist climbing or equipment may need an arborist, electricity-network involvement, council approval or another appropriate specialist. These conditions must be identified before ordinary small-tree work is booked.

Tree condition

Show leaning trunks, split branches, decay or other visible damage so suitability can be considered before a visit.

Working space

Photos should show whether branches can be lowered without contacting buildings, neighbouring property or new outdoor finishes.

Access for clean-up

Gate width, steps, side paths and the distance to the street can affect how equipment and green waste move through the property.

Small-tree service areas

Suitable jobs are assessed across Melbourne’s northern, north-western and western suburbs, including Preston, Reservoir, Epping, Wollert, Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mernda, Doreen, Sunbury, Melton and Werribee. See the full service-area information or the dedicated Preston and northern Melbourne page.

Frequently asked questions

What size trees do you handle?

Evergreen assesses suitable small residential trees up to 7 metres. The tree’s condition, access and nearby hazards must be checked before work is accepted.

Can branches be mulched and green waste removed?

Yes. Suitable branches can be processed with a compact mulcher, and agreed green waste can be removed when those items are included in the quotation.

Is stump or root removal automatically included?

No. Cutting or removing the above-ground tree does not automatically include stump or root work. The quotation must state the agreed stump treatment, if any, and whether logs, mulch and other green waste stay on site or are removed.

Can small-tree work be coordinated before fencing or landscaping?

Yes. Suitable approved tree work can be assessed before fencing, concrete, decking or landscaping so access and surrounding finishes can be considered. Each service must be listed in the agreed quotation.

What should I send for a small-tree quote?

Send the suburb, approximate tree height, a wide photo showing the complete tree, a photo of the trunk base, access photos, nearby structures and any visible overhead lines.

Does every small tree need the same service?

No. The appropriate scope may be selected pruning, cutting back or complete removal. The tree, site access, surrounding hazards and required clean-up must be assessed first.

For more planning information, read the small-tree cutting guide. If tree work is part of a larger outdoor project, review landscaping and site preparation.
