Small-tree guide

When to arrange professional small-tree cutting.

Evergreen handles accessible small residential trees up to 7 metres, with options for branch processing, mulching and site clean-up.

Small trees can outgrow a garden bed, obstruct access or conflict with a planned fence, deck or landscaping project. The safest and most efficient approach depends on the tree’s height, trunk and branch size, nearby structures and the space available to lower and process material.

Signs that the job needs proper planning

  • Branches extend above a roof, fence, shed or neighbouring property.
  • The tree blocks a driveway, side path or construction area.
  • There is limited room to lower branches without damaging surrounding features.
  • Powerlines, public land, protected vegetation or significant trees may be involved.
  • The job includes stump treatment, complete removal or extensive disposal.

Some situations require an arborist, electricity network involvement, a permit or another specialist. These should be identified before work is booked. Never assume a tree can be removed only because it is located on private property; check applicable council rules and ownership.

What Evergreen’s small-tree service covers

We assess pruning, cutting and removal of suitable small residential trees up to 7 metres. Where site access and material size are suitable, branches can be processed with a compact mulcher. The quotation should state whether mulch stays on site and what green waste will be removed.

Send useful photos for the quote

  1. Take one wide photo showing the entire tree from ground to top.
  2. Photograph the trunk base and surrounding garden or paving.
  3. Show nearby fences, buildings, overhead lines and access gates.
  4. Estimate the height and trunk diameter.
  5. Explain whether you want pruning, cutting back or complete removal.
Important: do not approach or cut vegetation near overhead electrical assets. If lines are nearby, identify the electricity network requirements before arranging ordinary tree work.

Coordinate tree work with the next project

If the area will later receive fencing, concrete, decking or landscaping, completing approved tree work first can improve access and reduce damage to new finishes.
